Deborah Smith, Ph.D.

I have held a fascination for the metaphysical since childhood, and a love for teaching which I pursued by earning my B.A. at Virginia Tech in the study of education and psychology. After years of teaching in public and private settings and raising a family, study and leadership in the Unity Church led to ordination and later certification in pastoral care. This provided a practical framework for spirituality and the founding of a non-profit center for spiritual study and enrichment.

I became certified as a Hypnotherapist through the National Guild of Hypnotists with additional certifications in specialized applications including complementary medical hypnosis and advanced study in past life regression. As I gained familiarity with the A.R.E. and the contributions of Edgar Cayce, also his interest in hypnosis, I began my studies with Atlantic University earning my M.A. in Transpersonal Studies with a concentration in Spiritual Guidance and Mentoring. My culminating project at Atlantic University, was conducted in practicum at the A.R.E. Health Center and Spa, detailing the effects of hypnosis on a variety of health conditions of volunteers over several months. After many years of private hypnotherapy practice, I trained to be a Certified Instructor of Hypnosis to certify students as hypnotists through the Guild. To further advance my transpersonal learning, I studied in the global program of transpersonal psychology at The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (now Sofia University) earning a Ph.D. in Psychology with a dissertation exploring the effects of cancer on long term marital relationships.

The classes I currently mentor at AU include all three levels in the Integrated Imagery: Regression Hypnosis graduate certificate (TS6115, TS6120, TS6125). Serving on faculty at AU affords me a welcomed avenue of service in my field of expertise and an opportunity to learn from others as they embark upon their personal knowledge quest. I continue to offer my hypnotherapy services at the A.R.E. Health Spa and maintain a private practice in Richmond, VA.
